In The Doghouse – About Our Dog-Friendly Holiday Cottage In Silkstone

A huge benefit of our dog-friendly holiday cottage near the Peak District, The Cottage, Silkstone, is that we are dog-friendly, allowing up to four of your doggy VIPs to stay and enjoy a holiday with you. We’re one of the few holiday rentals that allow more than two pets. And as dog lovers, we know how much your furry family members will love staying in our dog-friendly cottage in Silkstone.

Our canine guests are given the red-carpet treatment. We provide a warm welcome for dogs, with food/water bowls, poo bags, toys, treats and two medium dog beds all provided for comfort and convenience. Pets are allowed in all rooms, and they can hop on the furniture too, but please use the throws provided in our dedicated doggy basket.

Dog-Friendly Walks And Places To Visit Near The Cottage, Silkstone

Dearne Valley Country Park

Eighty hectares of woodlands, canals, wet-woodland, lakes, and grasslands are waiting to be discovered by you and your canine companions. Dogs are allowed on leads, but with some areas suitable for off-leash exploration it’s an ideal location for everyone to stretch their legs.

Ingbirchworth Reservoir

Just a ten-minute drive away from The Cottage, Silkstone, or a two-hour trek if you’re feeling energetic, this scenic reservoir makes the perfect spot for an afternoon out with your pup. With magnificent views across the water, it is certainly worth a visit.

There is off-road parking nearby. Alternatively, some choose to park at nearby eatery Yummy Yorkshire and call in for a bite to eat before or after the walk (note this venue is dog-friendly only in certain areas so please check at the time of booking).

Silkstone Wagonway

The Silkstone Wagonway is a ‘must-walk’ route for dog lovers starting from our doorstep at The Cottage, Silkstone. It follows the route of an old horse-drawn railway used to transport coal and runs through the village and the surrounding valley.

The route will take you along Silkstone Common past the Huskar Memorial through Nabs Wood and through a number of local towns and hamlets ending at Barnaby Basin. It’s around a three-and-a-half-mile distance one way or a five-mile circular taking in the main highlights and exploring Silkstone’s mining heritage.

Dove Valley Trail

One of the most popular walks near to our Silkstone holiday cottage is the Dove Valley Trail. Part of the National Trans Pennine Trail, it will take you down a disused railway line from Silkstone Common, meandering through Dodworth and Worsborough as you go. This is not a difficult hike, but it is long if you complete the whole route to Worsbrough Bridge, though there are seats and stop-offs along the way. CLICK HERE FOR MORE

Trans Pennine Trail

The Trans Pennine Trail is a long-distance path running from coast to coast across Northern England on a mixture of surfaced paths, with some short on-road sections, and with gentle gradients.

The expansive trail, weaving through the picturesque landscapes of the Pennines, is a haven for both nature enthusiasts and canine companions with well-marked paths, open meadows to shaded woodlands. The trail features generally flat terrain which makes it accessible for dogs of various sizes and fitness levels, ensuring an enjoyable experience for both the energetic and more laid-back pups.

There are lots of options and different routes you can take including the Dove Valley Trail mentioned above.

Wentworth Castle and Gardens

Wentworth is ideal to explore with a canine companion, with lush green expanses and well-maintained paths sure to induce tail-wagging excitement. The enchanting garden, picturesque landscapes and historic architecture provide something for everyone, making it the ideal place for a leisurely stroll with your pup.
